A new book about Dune

Filed under: Dune News — Irulan @ 2:48 pm

The Science of Dune is a new book edited by Kevin Grazier, PhD about many things in the Dune novels including prescience, melange, suspensors, Arrakeen wildlife, and even Tleilaxu eyes. I just bought this book and have begun reading it; so far it’s fantastic. Every Dune fan should pick up a copy ASAP.

With Sandworms of Dune—the last title in the bestselling Dune science fiction series—due to be released in August 2007, sci-fi fans wanting to brush up on their Dune trivia and analyze the books from a fresh viewpoint will be able to do so with this definitive reference. Delving into the world of Dune, this guide offers fascinating scientific speculation on topics including physics, chemistry, ecology, evolution, psychology, technology, and genetics. It also scrutinizes Frank Herbert’s science fiction world by asking questions such as Is the ecology of Dune realistic? Is it theoretically possible to get information from the future? Could humans really evolve as Herbert suggests? and Which of Herbert’s inventions have already come to life? This companion to the Dune series is a must-have for any fan who wants to revisit this science fiction world and explore it even further.

Paul of Dune release date set

Filed under: Dune News — Irulan @ 2:40 pm

The lastest Dune novel by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson is set to release on September 16th 2008. This is the first book of yet another Dune Trilogy which takes place between the books of the original series.

Discription from Amazon.com:

Frank Herbert’s Dune ended with Paul Muad’Dib in control of the planet Dune. Herbert’s next Dune book, Dune Messiah, picked up the story several years later after Paul’s armies had conquered the galaxy. But what happened between Dune and Dune Messiah? How did Paul create his empire and become the Messiah? Following in the footsteps of Frank Herbert, New York Times bestselling authors Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson are answering these questions in Paul of Dune.

The Muad’Dib’s jihad is in full swing. His warrior legions march from victory to victory. But beneath the joy of victory there are dangerous undercurrents. Paul, like nearly every great conqueror, has enemies–those who would betray him to steal the awesome power he commands. . . .

And Paul himself begins to have doubts: Is the jihad getting out of his control? Has he created anarchy? Has he been betrayed by those he loves and trusts the most? And most of all, he wonders: Am I going mad?

Paul of Dune is a novel everyone will want to read and no one will be able to forget.

End of Message Board and I’m in need of help

Filed under: Site Administration — Irulan @ 8:44 pm

I’ve finally had enough of the spam and the porn, and the fact I have no time to delete it, so I’ve closed the message board. The FCC should get off their asses and do something about it. I’m not the only one who has been forced to shut down their messages boards. I will see what else I can do.

As for the site itself, I’ve just started a new job and have been going through training and lisencing, so I’ve had no time. If anyone would like to help out in finishing the site, let me know: webmaster@caveofbirds.com, use the subject “Website help” so it will make it through the spam filter.

And note, that any comments posted to this topic will not be approved. Please pose any comments to other topics or send an e-mail. Thanks.
